It's hard to imagine that by the time the January association newsletter is distributed nearly half of the 2007-08 school year will be over. I am certain that everyone is busy with the end of the first semester so close. When coupled with the responsibilities each of us face in our personal lives, it is truly remarkable that we are able to meet these challenges. As the holiday season passes, by way of tradition we are often drawn to reflect on past accomplishments as well as our hopes and expectations for the future.
Indeed our local association has accomplished a lot over the last year. As a member of the leadership team I am proud of our many accomplishments. As a veteran classroom teacher (and as a personal friend to both) I doubt that I could be more prideful than I am of Downey teacher and Executive Officer Lorraine Neal, and Norwalk-La Mirada teacher and Executive Officer Dimitri Elbling on their recent successful School Board Campaigns. Lorraine Neal (DEA) has been elected to the Norwalk-La Mirada School Board and Dimitri Elbling (TANLA) has been elected to the East Whittier Elementary School Board (my former school district).
Both candidates and a band of dedicated association leaders and members, as well as family, friends and community members, worked tirelessly throughout the campaign and that hard work and dedication paid off. I have every expectation that both School Board members will excel in their support for public education, students, parents, teachers, classified staff and the communities they have been elected to serve.
CONGRATULATIONS LORRAINE AND DIMITRI, WE ARE ALL PROUD OF YOU BOTH!!
